Shen Yun

Shen-Yun-1I recently saw Chinese classical dance in a popular touring show called Shen Yun at the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto.  I wasn’t sure what to expect because I read so many mixed reviews about it.  I have to say that I absolutely loved this show.  The dancers are phenomenal and so light-footed, the costumes are dazzling and the multi-media is incredible.  Yes it true that it’s a mass production type where dance is just one part of the puzzle rather than the main part of the experience.  But what I adored about this show that is missing in many dance programs that we see today, was the celebration of dance for all its beauty and grace.  I often find myself watching dance shows with heavy topics and while the quality of dance is high, I usually feel unsettled and wonder what message I am suppose to take home.  Shen Yun reminded me of what I love most about dance – beauty that touches the heart and the possibilities of all that can be captured on a stage. Go see it if you can!!
